On June 26, 113th year, the Miaoli Detention Center, Agency of Correction, Ministry of Justice held the 2nd quarter meeting on coordinate and contact meetings for the social reintegration of prisoners with mental illness, discussing the case of one individual.
On that day, the head of the Ministry of Justice's counseling team participated online, and the community support system (health, social welfare, police, labor, correctional, and other departments) personally visited the site. The parents of the detainees were transported from Miaoli Detention Center to the venue in vehicles provided by the authorities.
The meeting discussed separately the medical treatment and employment of individual cases. The supervisor from the Miaoli Employment Center provided information on the employment companies, and the social worker from the Miaoli County Government Mental Health Center explained the past hospitalization situations of the cases, considering the proximity of medical care and the establishment of past doctor-patient relationships. They arranged for the Wei-Gong Hospital home care team to contact and coordinate the discharge schedule, and will continue to monitor the progress of the cases monthly, accompanying them to outpatient visits when necessary. Other external units such as the Criminal Police Brigade of the Miaoli County Police Department. The director of the Miaoli Branch of the Taiwan Rebirth Protection Association, and the director of the Miaoli District Prosecutor's Office provided resources and suggestions.
The meeting concluded with a review by the Ministry of Justice's counseling team. The officials praised Miaoli Detention Center for their preparation before the reintegration transition meeting. Adherence to the guidelines for mentally ill inmates, thorough completion of the community transition meeting checklist, smooth conduct of the meeting, and invitation of family members to attend. This allowed family members to understand the government's preparation and follow-up arrangements for the case's return to the community, including treatment, protection, and prevention of reoffending. The officials also reminded family members that if the individual is unwilling to seek medical treatment, they should contact counselors promptly. The chances of successful reintegration into society are higher if the individual receives stable medical treatment. Family members expressed gratitude for the government's assistance at the meeting.
