To spread warmth and care during the Lunar New Year and strengthen the emotional bonds between inmates and their families, Miaoli Detention Center held two face-to-face visitation sessions on January 16 in its chapel. The event attracted 81 inmates and 150 family members, creating a touching and heartfelt atmosphere filled with deep familial love.
During the event, several family interactions moved attendees to tears. One particularly emotional story was that of an inmate, Ah-Xuan (pseudonym), who was incarcerated for a serious assault case and later transferred to the detention center due to DUI and fraud charges. Despite his mobility issues caused by a car accident and diabetes, Ah-Xuan’s father has always insisted on attending these visitation events to provide emotional support for his son. At the event, Ah-Xuan choked back tears as he promised his father, “I will be released in three months, and I will turn over a new leaf. I won’t let you down again.” This heartfelt moment deeply resonated with everyone present, becoming one of the highlights of the event.
Warden Jiang Qinglong personally attended the event, warmly greeting the families and expressing his sincere gratitude for their unwavering support in helping inmates reform. He emphasized that family encouragement is crucial in rebuilding inmates’ confidence and helping them reintegrate into society, which is the primary purpose of the visitation event. He also highlighted that the Lunar New Year is a time for family reunions in traditional culture, and even in a unique environment like this, the event aims to bring wa rmth and hope to the inmates through the love and expectations of their families.
